You don't need any kind of special initiation or even to be a Buddhist to invoke the kings of the four directions. Their compassion is not bound by religion, culture, or distance. That said, most of this book focuses on magic and Witchcraft that has its roots in the West and the grimoire tradition, so perhaps we should focus on that.

There are also four kings that are pervasive throughout the grimoires that you should get to know before we move on. They take on great importance in rites of evocation but can be called upon when hoping to make contact with nature spirits, spirits of the dead, or any other type of local or non-local entity.

The kings are sometimes listed as Demons, but most conjurors I know consider them to have a special liminal status. Like St Cyprian, they are neither of heaven nor of hell, but terrestrial beings who interface with both. This prayer works well either on its own, or you could replace the center portion with the prayer to St Cyprian, the prayer to Lucifer, or a Christian prayer. You have options.

Carry a cup with water, tea, or whiskey, and an incense censor on a chain. Light the incense and swing it three times in each direction as you turn and face them in order. If outside, you can also pour a small bit of liquid as an offering.
